Trendspotting: Velvet

Velvet has been a popular choice lately, as seen on the likes of Zoe and Vanessa:
From left: Zoe Saldana in a pastel velvet dress and heels with a croc clutch and pink quartz Cartier cocktail ring; Vanessa Hudgens in a crushed velvet Catherine Malandrino dress, fishnet stockings, ecru sandals and layered Dana Rebecca Designs, Cheryl Lynn and Penny Preville necklaces.
It's a bit of a shock seeing this beautiful fabric everywhere, since it's all but been retired since the 90s.  Regardless, I'm glad it's back on the scene!  It's gotten a bad rap, but I think that it's highly underrated - sexy but classic, and I can't wait to get one.

Here's a few places where to get your own:
From leftMango Velvet Drape Dress, normally $107.40, on sale for $53.79; Forever 21 Silk Blend Velvet top, $22.80; Asos Velvet and Ponti Panelled Pencil Skirt, normally $50.20, on sale for $19.72.
And though this is a bit of a splurge, I'm obsessed with this DVF:
Diane Von Furstenberg black wild grass velvet 'Grano' dolman wrapped dress; normally $345.00, on sale for $242.00
Just add it to the list!

  1. Okay, so I just found the most perfect black velvet Marc by Marc Jacobs at a Barney's sample sale in NYC a few weekends ago. I have an event in June and I'm thinking that is too late to wear velvet..but what about spring? Is velvet just a Fall/Winter fabric or is it passable in spring?
