Trendspotting: Leather

Leather has always been a popular choice, though it rarely veered far from the jacket territory.  However, in the last year, leather has made a serious resurgence and is branching out into all different types of pieces: skirts, dresses, tops and even formal wear.  Surprisingly, it is actually quite versatile and may even be acceptable in most workplaces when styled like the below outfits:

Flouncy Skirts:
Nicole Richie in a Mugler top with a laser-cut Winter Kate leather skirt. House of Harlow 1960 jewelry, a Chanel clutch and Jimmy Choo pumps; Brooklyn Decker in a Kirna Zabête for Target leather skirt with a sheer button-down and ankle-strap sandals.
Pencil Skirts:
Elizabeth Olsen in a white Topshop blazer, leather Asos pencil skirt and chunky sandal; Nikki Reed in a striped Lady and the Sailor tee, leather Robert Rodriguez pencil skirt, layered Lola James Jewelry necklaces and black sandals.
Jessica Chastain in a Proenza Schouler leather and tweed dress and suede Rupert Sanderson stilettos; Olivia Palermo in a leather peplum top with navy shorts, a chainstrap bag and pointy-toe wedges.
Salma Hayek in a curve-hugging leather sheath and peep-toe Sergio Rossi pumps; Malin Akerman in a leather Boss Black LBD with a white gold Stephen Webster cuff, black clutch and suede heels.
Leather Trim:
Lea Michele in Stella and Jamie's tweed and leather separates, a cream Bec & Bridge bodysuit and ankle-strap Nicholas Kirkwood heels; Jennifer Garner in a black and navy dress, diamond Norman Silverman studs and ankle-strap heels; Kate Bosworth in Proenza Schouler boutique in the label’s leather-trimmed skirt, a relaxed blouse, black clutch and strappy sandals.
Bold Colors:
Maria Sharapova in a Valentino red leather dress accented with a Tag Heuer watch and Manolo Blahnik pumps; Julianne Hough in a leather dress from Milly and neutral peep-toes; Emma Stone in a leather Monique Lhuillier dress, cap-toe Louboutins and gems from Sydney Evan Jewels.
